This is an experimental feature to begin testing for more end user customization. Vector is built on the ideology that each person should be able to setup their app client to work and look the way they want. If you notice any issues, inconsistencies, or visual bugs please contact us and share either screenshots or videos to help developers resolve the issues.

## Background Wallpapers

<figure><img src="/files/VwutEgljmCAx0QNdufot" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

By default, certain themes come with a background wallpaper for private messages. This is not only optional to simply turn on and off, but you can also use the Chat Menu (`...`) in the top right of your chat to create a custom wallpaper (direct messages only). This feature is not supported for Group Chats & Communities.

### Custom Backgrounds

<figure><img src="/files/AWq0IKtOwHAaCC45ggF2" alt="Screen Recording - Change Wallpaper" width="291"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Custom backgrounds are now supported as of `v0.4.0` for private messages between two users. Both members of a private chat can change the wallpaper, and an in-app event will notify both users indicating who last made the change. Once you have uploaded your preferred image, Edit Mode will be enabled, giving you two adjustment sliders: Blur and Brightness. Use these sliders to fine-tune your background to your preferred display settings.

{% hint style="info" %}
Wallpapers can only be changed in Private Messages.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://vector-privacy.gitbook.io/vector-privacy/vector-messenger/features/themes.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
